Dog Training by Karen Barta

As an active  professional member of the APDT, Karen continues to increase her knowledge and skills as a Dog Trainer by learning from respected leaders in the industry, workshops, books, and of course her hands on work with dogs. 

Karen shares her home with her husband Grant, three adopted dogs Puppers, Lucy and Chewbacca, and always has a resident foster dog.

Karen is dedicated to deepening the bond between owners and their dogs through training and education. She believes that learning should be a positive experience for both dogs and their people and tries to make training both fun and easy for both species.  She is very excited to be able to share her knowledge and love of dogs and people through Truckee Tahoe Kennels’ programs.

Karen graduated as valedictorian from the Peaceable Paws Intern Academy and received the ASPCA/Association of Pet Dog Trainers Shelter Staff Award in 2005 honoring her hard work and dedication to saving and improving the lives of shelter dogs through training and education.  After several years working with Town of Truckee Animal Control and the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe, she decided to pursue her dream of working full time in dog training and behavior and we are so lucky to have her as our Training and Daycare Supervisor.
